1. Our Commitment to Accessibility
Mr. Pest Control is committed to ensuring that our website, https://www.bugsrbad.com/, is accessible to the widest possible audience — including individuals with disabilities. We believe that every person deserves equal access to information about our pest control services, regardless of their abilities or the technology they use to access the web.
We recognize that web accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time task. As a locally owned, small business serving Beaufort and Jasper County, South Carolina since 1955, we are actively working to improve the accessibility of this Website and are committed to making meaningful progress over time.
This Website is newly launched. We acknowledge that it is not yet fully optimized for accessibility in all areas. This statement is our honest declaration of where we currently stand, what we are doing to improve, and how you can reach us if you experience any barriers.
2. Applicable Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 defines how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities and is organized around four core principles — content must be:
- Perceivable — information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive
- Operable — user interface components and navigation must be operable by all users
- Understandable — information and operation of the user interface must be understandable
- Robust — content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies
WCAG 2.1 defines three levels of conformance:
- Level A — the minimum level of accessibility
- Level AA — the standard level targeted by most accessibility regulations and guidelines
- Level AAA — the highest and most comprehensive level of accessibility
We are working toward WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance as our accessibility target.
3. Applicable Law
Web accessibility for businesses in the United States is governed primarily by the following:
Federal:
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), 42 U.S.C. § 12101 et seq. — Title III of the ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in places of public accommodation. The U.S. Department of Justice has taken the position, affirmed by numerous federal courts, that websites of businesses open to the public are subject to Title III requirements. In April 2024, the DOJ published a final rule under Title II of the ADA establishing WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the applicable standard for state and local government websites; similar standards are widely applied to private business websites.
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, 29 U.S.C. § 794d — requires federal agencies and entities receiving federal funding to make their electronic and information technology accessible. While this applies primarily to government entities, it informs the broader accessibility standard expected of websites.
South Carolina:
- South Carolina Human Affairs Law, S.C. Code § 1-13-10 et seq. — prohibits discrimination based on disability in places of public accommodation in South Carolina
- South Carolina Assistive Technology Program — state program supporting access to assistive technology for South Carolinians with disabilities
We take these legal frameworks seriously and are actively working to meet the accessibility expectations they establish for business websites.
4. Current Accessibility Status
We are honest about where this Website stands today. As a newly launched website, we are in an active state of accessibility improvement. Below is a transparent summary of our current status:
4.1 Features Currently in Place
The following accessibility features have been implemented on this Website:
- Semantic HTML structure — the Website uses semantic HTML elements (headings, lists, navigation landmarks, sections) to create a logical document structure that assistive technologies can interpret
- Keyboard navigation — primary navigation and interactive elements (buttons, links, form fields) are accessible via keyboard without requiring a mouse
- Color contrast — our brand color system uses high-contrast combinations (dark green on light backgrounds, electric lime on dark backgrounds) designed to meet or approach WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast ratio requirements of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text
- Descriptive link text — links throughout the Website use descriptive text rather than generic phrases like “click here”
- Form labels — all form fields in our contact and free quote form are associated with descriptive labels
- Responsive design — the Website is designed to be usable across a range of screen sizes and devices, including mobile phones and tablets
- Font legibility — the Website uses clean, legible typefaces (Anton for display headings, Inter for body text) at sizes intended to support readability
- No auto-playing media — this Website does not contain audio or video content that plays automatically without user initiation
- Page titles — each page of this Website has a descriptive and unique page title
4.2 Known Limitations
We are transparent about the following areas where this Website is not yet fully optimized for accessibility. We are actively working to address these:
- Alternative text for images — not all decorative and informational images on this Website currently have complete alternative text descriptions. We are conducting an audit and adding or improving alt text throughout.
- SVG accessibility — some SVG graphics (including the Mr. Pest Control logo and hex icons) may not be fully accessible to screen readers in all contexts. We are working to add appropriate ARIA labels and titles to these elements.
- ARIA landmarks — while the Website uses semantic HTML, ARIA landmark roles have not yet been fully implemented across all pages to optimize the screen reader experience.
- Focus indicators — some interactive elements may not have sufficiently visible focus indicators in all browsers, which can affect keyboard-only navigation. We are working to ensure consistent, visible focus styles throughout.
- Color contrast in certain elements — while our primary color combinations meet contrast requirements, some secondary text elements (such as subdued labels and placeholder text in form fields) may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements. We are auditing and adjusting these.
- Skip navigation link — a “skip to main content” link to bypass repetitive navigation has not yet been implemented. This is on our improvement roadmap.
- Third-party embedded content — certain third-party content embedded in this Website — including Google Maps — is outside our direct control. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of content provided by third-party services.
- PDF documents — if any PDF documents are linked from this Website, they may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. We are committed to ensuring any future documents are published in accessible formats.
- Comprehensive screen reader testing — this Website has not yet undergone comprehensive testing with all major screen readers (including NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack). This testing is planned as part of our ongoing accessibility improvement work.
5. Assistive Technologies
We aim for this Website to be compatible with the following assistive technologies, though comprehensive testing is still in progress:
Screen readers:
- NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) with Firefox on Windows
- JAWS (Job Access With Speech) with Chrome on Windows
- VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS
- TalkBack with Chrome on Android
Input methods:
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Mouse and trackpad
- Touch screen / mobile navigation
Browser zoom:
- The Website is designed to remain usable when text is zoomed up to 200% in browser settings without loss of content or functionality
If you experience compatibility issues with a specific assistive technology not listed above, please let us know through the contact information in Section 7.
6. Our Accessibility Improvement Plan
We are committed to meaningful, ongoing progress. Our current accessibility improvement roadmap includes the following planned actions:

- Audit form field placeholder text contrast and adjust where needed
Medium-term (within 6 months):
- Implement ARIA landmark roles across all pages
- Conduct screen reader testing with NVDA and VoiceOver
- Review all text color combinations against WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast requirements and remediate where needed
- Evaluate and implement a formal accessibility audit by a third-party accessibility specialist
Ongoing:
